Honda Civic Hybrid Returns Next Year

Honda has recently announced that the Honda Civic Hybrid will be making a comeback in Canada and the U.S. in 2024. Produced in North America, both sedan and hatchback versions of the Civic Hybrid will be manufactured at the Honda of Canada Mfg. (HCM) in Alliston, Ontario, and the Indiana Auto Plant (IAP) in Greensburg, Indiana. This reintroduction comes as part of Honda's commitment to advancing its electrification strategy and offering more hybrid options to consumers.
Advancing the Electrification Strategy
The return of the Honda Civic Hybrid is a significant step in Honda's overall electrification strategy. Honda aims to equip their core models with hybrid-electric systems, and they have already seen success in this area. In 2023, over 35% of CR-V and Accord sales in North America were hybrid-electric trims, and nearly 20% of Honda's total sales in Canada were electrified models. With the reintroduction of the Civic Hybrid, Honda expects hybrid sales to make up more than 40% of total Civic sales in North America.
The Role of the EV Hub
Honda is also making significant investments in establishing an EV Hub in Ohio as part of their efforts to achieve carbon neutrality for all products and corporate activities by 2050. The EV Hub will be crucial in leading Honda's journey towards producing electric vehicles in North America. In October 2022, Honda announced a $700 million investment to retool several existing auto and powertrain plants in Ohio, paving the way for the production of battery-electric vehicles starting in 2025.
